Biden administration calls for EU to delay EUDR

The U.S. government has called for the European Union (EU) to delay the upcoming Regulation on Deforestation-free products (EUDR).

A letter to the European Commission from U.S. Secretaries of Commerce and Agriculture Gina Raimondo and Thomas Vilsack and Trade Envoy Katherine Tai, dated May 30 and seen by the Financial Times, said that the legislation would hurt North American producers.

Logistical issues overwhelm Dhaka hide traders

Hide traders in Posta, the leather trade hub of Old Dhaka, Bangladesh, were thrown into disarray when a convoy of delivery vehicles ignored government instructions.

The operation was reportedly going smoothly until, late Monday night (June 17), when a convoy of 50-60 trucks arrived with hides for processing.

In spite of the lower slaughtering numbers across Europe and the U.S., demand for raw material, including splits, remains very low and there are stocks of raw or semi-processed materials which will not find a home before the European summer shutdown.
